Hello, here is this friday's updates of news and upcoming events during the up-coming week here in west howe.

Saturday 11th May, North Bournemouth area forum, 10am Kinson community centre.

This is a lively public meeting where you can meet your local Councillors, hear what’s new and ask questions on community issues. Everyone is welcome and tea and coffee will be available. This month there will be local updates from the police and a visit from the local neighbourhood watch as well as a discussion on empty homes.

Sunday 12th May, Table top sale, 2pm - 4pm Henry Brown youth Centre, Cunningham Crescent.

Everyone welcome. All money raised goes back into your local community.

Wednesday 15th May, Filming workshop, 10am - 2pm Henry Brown youth Centre, Cunningham Crescent.

Want to help make a film about what we would like the future of west Howe to look like?

During this session we will prepare for the short bit of filming and interviewing we will be doing on Thursday. We’re really keen that you come and join us. The joy of being part of a group is that no one is put on the spot – if you’re not feeling confident that’s fine – just sit near the back and take your time. And please remember your packed lunch - tea, coffee and biscuits are plentiful here though! We have a microwave here if you want to reheat anything.

If you have any questions or comments, please do get in touch. Here is a link to a past film that is pretty similar to what we will be making, fast paced with lots of energy. http://www.bournemouth2026.org.uk/boscombe-home/

We have just heard that the old church in Kinson road is going to be turned into a CO-OP, we are not sure exactly when this will open or what the hours of trade will be yet. At the moment we are aware they have applied for a licence to sell alcohol between the hours of 8 and 11. We will of course keep you updated when we hear anything else.

Fernheath play is now taking bookings for childcare in the May holidays. With new hours of 7.30am - 5.30pm, we are sure this will be a great help to working parents. If you would like to book phone 01202 581008.

Well that's it from us this week, have a great weekend and remember if you would like anything on next week's blog or in our newsletters get in touch at admin@westhowe.net

Give or Take and Make Day

Saturday 27th April 2-4pm at Henry Brown Youth Centre.

As well as our usual give or take event you can Have a go at crochet and find out how you can make a blanket out of odd bits of wool. Come and learn how to make accessories and lots of other great stuff from old clothes too. Children will not be left out as we will be making toys from trash. Your little ones can come along and let their imagination run wild and make their very own moshi-like monster from old packaging. Everything is free except for the tea and coffee. There will also be button and bead packs available to buy so you can go home and be creative. Thanks to green Goals funding

  • Moore Avenue Park Community Group

Moore Avenue Park Community Group have sent us all this amazing news so we thought we would share it all with you.

Firstly, a big thank you to all who joined in the Wild Flowers at Easter Event. The weather was kind to us as we planted and sowed wild flowers in the Park. The children from the Let’s Play Session at the Centre made seed balls and came out to scatter them across the meadow area by the main gate.

Secondly, June the 2nd! Put that date in your diaries now and earmark it for the West Howe Fun Day. Starting at 12 noon we have plenty of free entertainment lined up from Jamie Jigsaw (12.30 – 3.30), Wessex Majorettes and musicians from the BSO. We also have a visit from Peppa Pig between 2 and 3 pm. Diamond Facepainting will be doing glitter tattoos and facepainting from £1.50. There will be the chance to find out more about recycling in Bournemouth and the Dorset heathlands as well as trading stalls and plenty of fun activities.

We still have some spaces for stalls so get in touch if you are interested at mapcgroup@hotmail.co.uk

The good news for everyone at Cherry Tree Nursery is that work is beginning on the second phase of their sustainable replacement building programme.

This will vastly improve the facilities and services on offer to the over 150 people with severe and enduring mental health problems who attend the registered charity project and well known local plant nursery situated in Northbourne.

Phase 1 of the building programme, the wonderful new tearoom for the volunteers with kitchen and toilet block was completed in 2011, and famously opened by The Princess Royal in March 2012.

The buildings are constructed of local natural materials, the walls are filled with straw for insulation and there is sheep’s wool under the floor. The timber frame is of local Douglas Fir.

Phase 2 will be learning, recovery and working facilities for the volunteers including a room for a Disability Rights Adviser, rooms for private conversations, a quiet room, a library, and rooms for bookkeeping and office work to take place in, as well as a training room for courses and the use of computers.

Everyone at Cherry Tree is very excited that this programme is continuing despite the difficult times. It represents to us all the recognition of the work of Cherry Tree, and the start of work is a tremendous boost to everyone’s self-esteem.

They are looking forward to welcoming back the builders from the Dorset Centre for Rural Skills who are now part of the Cherry Tree family.

Cherry Tree will do everything possible to minimise any disruption to customers and visitors to the Nursery, but wish to apologise in advance should anyone experience any inconvenience. They hope our many friends and supporters will enjoy watching the new buildings grow over the course of the summer. It is hoped to be finished by the end of the year. We wish them every sucess with this new work.
