    This weeks Local Events

    Saturday 25th

Give or take and make Day, Henry Brown youth Centre, 2pm - 4pm.

Thanks to Green Goals funding, we will be expanding May's Give or Take day. Come and learn how to make bags and accessories and lots of other great stuff from old clothes, Have a go at Crochet and find out how you can make a blanket from odd bits of wool that are left lying around. The Children will not be left out as we will also be making Toys from trash. Your little ones can come along, let their imagination run wild and make their very own 'Moshi like monster' and other toys from old packaging. Of course we will have the usual Give or Take Day which are like a jumble sale but without the money! Local people bring along unwanted but usable items, other residents then have the chance to browse and take away items they do want. You don’t have to give anything to take something new away or vice versa. Ultimately the events encourage reuse of items that would have otherwise ended up in landfill. Donated items include kitchen gadgets, books, DVD, clothes, children’s toys, general bric-a-brac and many more. Any electrical items are tested for safety by experts on the day before being allowed to be passed on to potential new owners. Everything else is taken on at the new owner’s risk. And Finally the cafe bar will also be open for refreshments and cake! so come along and have a natter and catch up.

    Monday 27 May

Your local Councillors hold a surgery at West Howe Library every Monday 10.30-12.00, pop in and see them to discuss anything about the local area.

    Health Watch Dorset

Healthwatch is the new independent consumer champion for health and social care, created to gather and represent the views of the public. We are presently recruiting volunteers in order to create a network of

Healthwatch Champions right across Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth.

Champions will have two main roles:

    1. To promote Healthwatch in their local communities, so that people know what it is, what it can do and how they can get in touch with it. Getting across the message – “Your Voice Counts: You Can Make A Difference.”

    2. To be the eyes and ears of Healthwatch at the heart of local communities, feeding back to us what people's experiences (good and bad) of services are and encouraging people to tell us their stories.

Anyone can offer to be a Healthwatch Champion. All you have to do is be ready to promote Healthwatch in your local community and encourage people to share with us their experiences - good or bad - of health and care services with suggestions as to how things could be improved. Help get the message across that “Your Voice Counts and You Can Make A Difference”, because Healthwatch can tell the people who commission and provide services what you've told us and then work to bring about change.

You can spend as much or as little time as you wish undertaking your volunteering activities, at times to suit you. You will receive training appropriate to your level of involvement and the support of the dedicated Volunteer Officer.

If you would like any more information or to register as a volunteer, please contact your

    Volunteer Officer – Chris Wakefield
